The speaker said he referred to the medical side of hospital work. in all of the four main centres it was true New Zealand had very excellent physicians but in the secondary hospitals like Palmerston North, Wanganui and Napier, the medical side was to a large extent neglected and that, most important work was left in the main to house surgeons. Until a year or two ago every young doctor who came to his office fioni the Otago University was out to be a * U rgeon. Why* They were quite frank in their replies: It was going to pay best. That state of affairs was a great drawback to hospitals generally. He thought ' more men should take up the work of physicians.
