REFEREE'S POSITION ON RUGBY COUNCIL. The matter of representation of referees on the Horowhenua Rugby District Council was before the special meeting of the Manawhenua delegates in Levin on Friday, when a letter was read in which Horowhenua notified the combined Union that Mr J. Sciascia had been elected a member of the district management committee. The Union president (Mr A. M. Ongley) asked what had happned to Mr Iv'idson, the former representative of the Referees' Association. He" stated that the rules provided that the referees' association in each district was entitled to one delegate, who was not elected by the District Council, but by the Association. This letter did not make Mr Sciascia's appointment in order at present.
Mr J. J. O'Connor, president of the Horowhenua Council, stated that according to the rules, Mr Kidson had forfeited his seat through non-attend-ance. The position thus becoming vacant, the Council decided to appoint another member of the Referees' Association, believing that in doing so they were acting according to the rules. * Mr Ongley said that the Association were entitled to nominate a man for the seat, and their rights should not be over-ridden.
Mr O'Connor: What Avould happen if the Referees' Association disbanded f
Mr Ongley: There could not be any member appointed. Mr O'Connor: We cannot get any communication from them. We have written to them time. after time, and they have not replied to the letters. Mr Ongley: Apparently you will be in the same position next year unless you, have a Referees' Association. It is immaterial at the present time. All 1 wanted to guard against is finding ourselves in trouble with the Referees' Association. Tlie letter was received.
