VETERAN RUGBY SKIPPER INJURED.
HARRY. JACOB A HOSPITAL CASE
The closing of the season in Levin ,n Saturday saw the veteran Maua-A-henua captain and All Black, Harry Jacob, received injuries of a nature -.erious enough to warrant his removal o the Palmerston North Hospital, where he was operated upon at an early hour yesterday morning. He was participating in the final of he knock-out competition on the Do main, Wanderers .v. Shanuon, for the Nash Cup, when he fell on the eloow of Payne, receiving internal injuries Aii'ieh ultimately brought him to the perating theatre. The incident happened early in the fame, but Jacob persisted in seeing 'lie game out, and although he was .inable to do much actual play, he was uvaluable as a general When he was •xamined by Dr. Thompson subsequently he was informed that he. wa--i hospital case, but he held out until s) p.m., and then collapsed in his home. The doctor again advised his removal, but. it was not until nearly 4 a.m. on Sunday morning (hat .'lacob gave in and ieft for Palmerston North. He was operated on immediately on his arrival at six o'clock, and was, later reported to be doing fairly well, although the injury (an internal rupture) .is considered to be of rather a serious nature. All the friends and admirers of one of New Zealand's finest footballers will wish Skipper Jacob a speedy recovery. Inquiry was made from the hospital staff by telephone this afternoon and it was learned that the patient's condition had slightly improved, bul he was still seriously ill.
