MONTHLY MEETING OP EXECUTIVE.

A meeting of the executive of the Manawatu and West Coast Hairy Companies ’ Association /was held on Thursday at Palmerston North, when there were present: Messrs S. Broad'belt (in the chair), Hansen, Pacey, Eanford, Dalzell and Teale.

A letter Avas received from the Federation of Taranaki Co-operative Dairy Factories bringing to the notice of the meeting a resolution passed by the Taranaki Federation urging the'Dairy Division of the Department of Agriculture to eliminate regulation 37 of th'e Dairy Companies Act, 1908, which reads-: “No matter from .cheese presses, whether white AA 7 hey, butter-fat, etc., shall be used in the manufacture of white butter. ” —lt was resolved to circularise cheese members of the association asking iwhat .was the practice prior to the passing of the regulation. A letter from Dalgety and Co., Ltd., Avas read- by the chairman pointing out the handicap New Zealand Ibacon had on the Home market due to the English regulation describing bacon cured at Home from NeAv Zealand hogs as NeAA r Zealand bacon. On the chairman ’s motion it was decided to send a letter to the Minister of Agriculture asking him to endeaA T our to have the regulations in this connection amended to describe such, as cither “Home cured New Zealand hogs,” or “Home cured Empire hogs. ” A letter from Mr. W. M. Singleton, director of the Dairy Division, which had been held over from a pre\ T ious meeting, was dealt with. It embodied the draft of a suggested regulation making it compulsory for a dissatisfied supplier,' who considers his cream has ibeen unfairly graded, to ‘give at least ten days’ notice of his intention to transfer to another factory, unless a license be obtained from the director as an inspector. The letter 1 added that this regulation Avould not be made applicable to the commencement of the season, the months- of June and July. —The association decided to inform Mr. Singleton of its approval of the measure and, further, decided to ask for the co-operation of members interested in cheese in the matter.
