LICENSE FOR HALL.
CONTROVERSY IN OPOTIKI. ~ OPOTIKI, August 23. In the face of a report from an architectural expert stating that King'CH George’s Hall, a large brick building in H| Opotiki, was unsafe for skating or any other purposes, the Borough Council, at a special meeting granted a license for skating to be carried on in the hall. In a special report Mr H. L. D. West. architect, stated that the structure in Hj its present condition was unsafe for HI public entertainments. The back wall HI in places wa3 four inches out of plumb, and also badly cracked through the-HI bentrje, making it liable, under the existing excessive roof-thrust and the jHH vibration caused by a crowd of people, HH lo fall outward and allow the roof to collapse. The wall was also two feet H| in excess of the height permitted by JHH any building laws for a wall of itsH| thickness JH^ Mr G. A.
