On the grounds that fire brigades perform a national service and that lire loss is essentially a national loss, the Fire Boards’ Conference decided to request the Minister in charge of the Post & Telegraph Department to allow a special low rate for fire brigade telephones and for fire alarm system rentals. It was pointed out that telephones and alarm systems were so closely associated with means and methods by which national loss from fire could be mifiimised that they deserved consideration as regards a reduction in rates, the cost of wiring for alarms being numbers for all fire stations throughout vfvy high. Uniformity in telephone the Dominion was also urged as being desirable.
