RUGBY FOOTBALL.

DISTRICT CONTROL. MEETING OF HOROWHENUA COUNCIL. Hie weekly meeting of the management committee of the Horowhenua Rugby District Council was held in the Wistaria rooms last evening, there being present: Messrs J. J. O'Connor (chairman), W. N. Anderson (County), W. Neville (Foxton), W. S. Joyce (Wera ron), T. AVrigley (Kuku), J. W. Procter (Hui Mai), A. Richards (Shannon), M. Ryder (Wanderers), J. W. Rimmer (treasurer), J. Casev (secretary). FOURTH GRADE WON BY LEVIN SCHOOL. The secretary reported that the fourth grade competition was assured to Levin District High School, who had won five matches, drawn one, and lost none; Awahou had won one, drawn one, and lost three; Foxton D.H.S. had won oile and lost four. Levin had 11 points, and Awahou three. If Awahou won the throe remaining games that had been set down, they would have nine points; but they were quite satisfied to let the position' stand as at present. Possibly Awahou would play a friendly game at Levin later in the season.

It was decided that the Levin D.H.S. team be declared winners of the fourth grade competition. A QUESTION OF EXPENSES. On behalf of the Foxton Club, the secretary (Mr R. Homblow) wrote suggesting'that, as the third-grade trial game w»3 originally set down for Foxlon and afterwards changed to Weraroa, the travelling expenses of the "local players be met by the Union. Mr Casey moved and Mr Richards seconded, that the Foxton Club be informed that this Council does not pay the travelling expenses of players engaged in trial games. Mr Richards stated that one reason tlu.t prevented the Shannon players from coming down was the expense. The motion was carried. WON ON A PROTEST. A protest was rereived from the Weraroa Club against their juniors' match against Shannon, in the semi-final of the Knock-out Competition, on the ground that the latter team played Jamieson, who had previously played for Miranui against Weraroa, and who had not received a transfer and consequently was not eligible to play for Shannon. (The match was won by Shannon by 7 to nil, at Shannon on Saturday). Mr Richards stated that Jamieson had played for Miranui this season, and he did not know why Shannon played Jamieson.

. On the motion of the chairman, seconded by Mr Casey, the match was awarded to Weraroa.

The final for the trophy, the Licensed Victuallers' Cup, will be played between Weraroa and Foxton, at Otaki on Saturday; THIRDS v. RANGITIKEI. .

The Rangitikei Sub-Union sent advice that their third-grade reps would play the Horowhenua Thirds on August 27th, at Marton.

The Horowhenua third grade representative team has been selected as follows: — Full back.—Roe. Three-quarters. Waite, Hurren, Smith.

Five-eighths. —Jones, Dempsey. Half.—Hartley. - Wing.—Taylor. Forwards. —Berry, Smart, Hobson Palmer, Bond, 3att, Whyman. Reserves: Backs, Broadbelt, Huff Winiata; forwards. Field, Foster, Howell.

Mr M. Ryder was appointed mana s cr -

JUNIORS v. WANGANUI

The date of August 27th was accepted for the junior match against Wanganui, to be played at Wanganui. Mr J. W. Procter was appointed manager.

AN INCORRECT STATEMENT

Mr Anderson took exception to a statement in the Otaki Mail that the senior final Hui Mai v. County had been transferred from the Manakau ground to Levin "at the request of the County team." This was incorrect. The County Club did not care where the match was played. Other members supported Mr Anderson and it was decided to ask on what authority the statement had been published and that it be withdrawn, also that the County Club had nothing to do with the location of the match. SENIOR FINAL AT MANAKAU.

As the result of a lengthy* discussion, reported separately, the venue of the Hui Mai-County match was transferred back to Manakau, as the result of a protest by--the Hui Mai Club against the Council's decision at last meeting that the final should take place in Levin.
