SHANNON FIRE BRIGADE FORMED.
The- meeting called for Tuesday evening by the Borough Council of all those interested in the formation of a volunteer fire brigade "-'as very poorly attended. The Mavor stated that the hose reel had arrived and the rest of the equipment would come to hand any day. He pointed out that it was desirable to have the brigade formed at once. Cr. Gunning moved and Cr. Thwaites .seconded: "That a volunteer fire brigade be formed to consist of 12 or more members.". The motion was carried. *
The question of the Council handing over the equipment to the brigade was discussed,* Cr. Thwaites pointing out that as they were an honourable body of men the Council should have sufficient confidence in them to hand over the equipment. On Cr. Hyde's motion it was decided that the brigade should be a separate body, with representation from the Council.
The question of a fire alarm was discussed. Cr. Gunning offered two 30-foot poles to enable a temporary bell to be erected, until definite arrangements can be made. It has been suggested that these be erected in- one of the plots in the main street.
A number of those present offered their srvices as volunteers and anyone wishing to become members is asked to hand in his name to the Town Clerk. As soon as the rest of the equipment arrives a meeting of members will be held to elect their officers.
Mr J. Curran, jun., has kindly offered to give assistance in placing the brigade on a working basis. ' ;
