" Wireless Communication and the Fire Service" was the subject of a paper read by a fireman at a rect nt conference of the Institute of Fire Ftigin. ers at Liverpool. Since 1920, when successful experiments in wireless communication had been conducted between a fire-engine and brigade headquarters in London over a distance of seven miles, interest in the matter had been spasmodic? said the lecturer -but several brigades had experimented on their own account. 'He was convinced that sooner or later wireless would be used to a very large extent to keep various unilf: of a fire brigade in touch. Chief-Superintendent Wilson, of Rochdale, said his brigade had experimented with wireless and held transmitting and receiving licenses. At n recent display one of the engines was fitted'with wireless and communication was maintained with headquarters on the way to and from the ground and throughout, the display—
in fact, they actually received a call by wirohss. They wore convinced that wireless was a sound proposition for fire brigade purposes and could be easily worked. 1
