WORLD'S LARGEST FAMILY.

Once again Dr. Bamardo's Homes, who support the largest family in the world, are appealing for their food find. The holiday season of the year is commencing, but. there can be no holiday .for the food bill fund where 'this great family is concerned. Last year 18,171 children and young people were dealt with by the homes, and 1,623 were permanently admitted, which means that till they arc able to earn their own Jiving (an average ol about 10 years) they must be eared for, fed, eloth.ed, taught, and trained. To meet the food bill during the 'lean months of the year 400,000 half-crowns are asked for. Every day 24,000 m-v,h have to be provided for this great family, which equals a town in si :•.(>. The milk which is necessary amounts to 1,000 gallons per day. 1,600 loaves are baked daily by lads at the boys' garden city bakehouse. But this large number supplies only about three-eighths of the family. The bill for the ingredients, and fuel for baking has to be met, hlso bread has to be purchased for the other five-eighths of the family; There are always about 8,000 children in these national homes, and live others, on an average, arc admitted daily. These destitute little people of the Homeland cannot appeal for themselves, and we are asked to do so on their behalf. The work is well worth doing from the Imperial standpoint, for the homes turn these C> children into Al citizens, and send them out to take their places in the world. Nearly 30,000 have been placed in the British Dominions, which are in so great need of a white population. Cheques and Orders may be made payable to "Dr. Bamardo's Homes Food Fund'' and crossed, and addressed to "Dr. Barnardo's Homes Food Fund," 18-20 .Stepney Causeway, London, F. 1., England.
