SHANNON SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Shannon School Committee was held on Wednesday evening. Present: Messrs E. L. Tippler (chairman), W. Lankshear, A. Coates, G. Booker, E. Butt, A. Blackwood, and J. V. Burns. THE DRAINAGE. Mr Powell, Supervisor of Buildings, wrote stating it had been pointed out to him when visiting Shannon that the soakage pit was waterlogged and the water was backing up on the surface. He had explained to Mr White that if a drain was connected to the present soak pit and carried away for a distance of 30 feet in field pipes, the earth would absorb a good deal of the moisture which would relieve the soak pitHe asked that the Committee arrange for the work to be carried out. —Held over until next meeting. SHELTER SHED. A letter was received from the Board stating that there was no hope at present for another shelter shed being creeled at tlie school. GENERAL. Mr Blackwood reporting on the recent visit to the school by members of the Board; stated that they had sanctioned the Committee going on with the road into the School grounds from the main road at a cost of £lO. The chairman stated the job had now been completed. The committee set up to deal with the asphalting of the play area, reported having proposed to the Board that the latter supply the material and the Committee provide the labour, the work to be done'at the end of the year. —The matter was postponed till the Committee are officially advised by the Board. HEADMASTER'S REPORT. The headmaster (Mr A. T. White) reported that the attendance was improving, the average for the quarter being 300, 312, 326, 323 and 314. The number on the roll -was 361.
