FORTNIGHTLY MEETING. Th&vShannon Borough Council met in the Council Chambers on Tuesday evening, there being The Mayor (Mr. E. Butt) and CrsWH. Gunning, T. C. Thwaites, A. E. Hyde, R. Downes, Jas. Richardson, J. Curran, - iun. and J. Curran r sen. J POSTAL MATTERS. '.A letter was received from J. Varley Burns, stating that he would be glad if the Council would give the following ' their earnest consideration and make - representations to the Postmaster-Gen-eral on the suggestions submitted:—(i) In the course-of a few weeks the mail •contracts will be let for the Makerua * rural delivery. At the present time ■ a letter posted at Wellington on Monday afternon arrives here on Tuesday morning from Palmerston -North and is sent on to Makerua on .Wednesday morning. If this mail was to the Post Office, Shannon, on Monday night, Makerua would get the mail on Tuesday morning. (2) Again, if Monday night's mail from Wellington was sorted on Monday night it,would give Shannon, business people, a chance to answer same by Tuesday morning s mail. (3) Also, now we have a service running between Shannon and Foxton there is a possibility of getting the mail back to Shannon, Moutoa, Marotiri and Foxton, instead of via Levin, thereby not only saving time, but bringing business in the way or Shannon.— resolved to write to the Postmaster-General supporting Mr-. He remarked that the suggestion by the Visitors had - been recommended by Cr. Downes.. when 1 the matter of forming the brigade was under discussion some time ago. ... It was resolyed. that a letter of thanks be forwarded to Messrs Watts and Barnard; Cr. Curran, jun., stating that, Supt.
