REPLACING A MAGNETO

Some pooplo under the belief that it is nearly impossible to remove a magneto without being instantly capable of putting it back again in its proper place, never bother to take a look at the relative positions of high, tension distributor brush and the) segments.

They will remove the holding-down band, take the magneto right off, and in the course of adjustment will rotate the armature; and when replacing it the connections will podsibly be as much as a complete revolution out of timing. it may be true that the modern magneto is practically impossible to replace incorrectly, owing to ) the couplings being so made that a wjrong assembling would -be impossible;! but in the majority of cases, this isi not true. Therefore, when you' are taking off your magneto, just tafce , a glimpse at the couplings, and ma>ko a few pencil marks or something to that effect, so that the positions of the distributor brush and the hightension segments will not be con fused.

While the machine is apart from the engine, it would be as well if you could refrain from rotating the hightension segments.

In the process of refitting, the armature-shaft should be turned until the distributor ig in exactly; the same position as it was when the coupling was dismantled. Halving done this you need feel no apprehension as to whether the magneto will function or not.
