LEVIN STOCK MARKET.
OPENING OF NEW YARDS.
A large attendance of the public, and heavy entries, of sheep and cattle.
marked the opening of the new saleyards for Levin, yesterday. The yards are situated at the corner of Cambridge Street extension and Tararua Road, and the site comprises two acres. -They have been erected by Mr W. S. Maunder, of Ashhurst, to the order of Messrs Abraham and Williams, Ltd., and the N.Z. Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd. The pig pavilion is in course of construction, and is' expected to be ready for the next sale, on Tuesday, July 26th. Mr. R. S. Abraham officially opened the yards, and thanked the farmers for their support. The market showed a healthy tone for the time of year. Sales at the following prices are reported by Messrs Abraham and Williams, Ltd.:—
Sheep.—Some exceptional consignments of prime quality lambs were received, which sold at 27s fid to 28s 9d. Fat lambs, 20s 3d.' Empty ewes 12s 2d, wether hoggets 20s, ewe's in lamb to; Southdown,, rams 275.
Cattle.—A very fine pen of bullocks was sold on aeount of Mr J. M. Bertram, of Manakau, for £l3 2s 6d. Other fat bullocks realised from £9 10s to £lO Fat cows £3 '2s 6d. to £6 7s 6d, fat heiters £3 18s, steers £2 2s 6d to £2 10s, empty cows £2 15s, store bullocks £5 2s, dairy cows £6 5a to £9 2s 6d, springing cows £4 15s to £B.
