MAORILAND THEATRE.

“HANDS ACROSS THE BOEDER.” “Hands Across the Border,’’one of the most spectacular of all Fred Thomson’s western romances, released by Master Pictures, comes to the. Ideal theatre on Wednesday. Frank M. Clifton wrote the story, a rattling’ tale of smuggling along the Mexican line, and the amusing difficulties into which a young American earn become’ immersed when he starts -"promiscuously to rescue young Spanish ladies from girls’ boarding schools. 'Along with the chuckles that sprinkle the picture with the usual Thomson prodigality there is an unexampled number of thrills, in most of which Silver King plays a big part. That horse takes the' palm, as the best actor in Hollywood! And: Mr. Thomson himself would’ be ’.the last to deny such an assertion. Bess Flowers has the leading' lady> : part, and she proves a .devastating damsel, both in distress'and otherwise. Others who stand out in the'strong'supporting cast are Tyrdne Power, William Courtwright, Clarence Geldert, and Thomas Santsehi. ■ “KID BOOTS.” Four stars in a comedy de luxe. . Eddie Cantor, star of Ziegfeld’s “Kid Boots,” which comes to the Maoriland Theatre on Friday in the form of a Paramount Picture, brings to the screen a characterization of a mistreated caddie, whose sehse of humor on the golf links relieves him from many an embarrassing situation. This is Eddie’s first venture in shadow land and according to Director Frank Tuttle, he should be and undoubtedly will be one of the outstanding comedians of the screen as he was and is on the legitimate stage. The locale of the story is laid in and about an hotel in a fashionable summer resort, where Clara Bow is swimming instructress for women and who falls in love with Ed-, die; where Larry Gray is golf pro. and where Billie Dove is the proprietor’s daughter, who falls in love with Larry and v.ice versa, which might also be said of Eddie and Clara. The love entanglement between these two couples and Cantor’s famous scene in a doctor’s office, which sent many a person home with the tears in their eyes from laughter when played in the stage play, along with many comedy “gags” supplied by Cantor and Hank Mann promises to make this photoplay one of the laughing hits of the screen season.

and carried without further discussion. , Showgrounds Decided Upon. In regard to the locality of the camp Mr Ongley agreed with Mr Casey in that he thought it should be further away from town. Foxton beach certainly was the best place to go to but there were ho facilities there. The Awapuni racecourse was also suggested as a locality, but met with little support, and on the motion of Mr. Crawford, seconded by Mr. Colquhoun, it was decided to hold the camp on the showgrounds. It was resolved to inform Mr Hopwood that his offer on behalf of the bus iness people to provide bunks and cookhouses on the showgrounds'had been accepted. Messrs M. Winiata and J. Ryan were appointed to go into camp with the team, and to act as joint managers.
