MAORILAND THEATRE

“RANGER OF THE BIG PINES.” The Maoriland Theatre is offering a virile, stirring tale of the West on Wednesday. “The Ranger of the Big Pines!” a Master Picture, will hold audiences spellbound by its dramatic story of the love of a proud forest ranger for the charming daughter of worthless parents. Kenneth Harlan and Helene Costello play the hero and lioroiiie, and both give excellent performances as Ross Cavanagh and Virginia Weatherford.

HAROLD LLOYD COMING. GREAT COMEDIAN’S LATEST PICTURE. One of the reasons for the astonishing popularity of Harold Lloyd is the fact that every Lloyd production is firmly built on a solid foundation of a real story. To be sure, a gag here an a stunt there is often inserted to add to the fun or to speed up the action, but it is never allowed unless it fits in exactly with the continuity of the plot. Furthermore, there is always an idea underlying the foolery and comedy complications. For instance, “For Heaven's Sake!” Lloyd’s latest Paramount mirth-pro-voker, emphasises the wholesome thought that the real joy of living is to be found in helping others. Harold, as a scion of wealth in this picture, is bored to tears with his life of idle ease and luxury. Oplywhen he goes down into slums to assist a none-too-successful missionary in uplifting the hardboiled inhabitants of the underworld, does lie find happiness.

His erperiences with the gangsters and toughs arc productive of much laughter qnd thrills—making “For Heaven’s Sake!” a more than worthy successor to “College Days.” Jobyna Ralston plays opposite Harold and makes, a charming leading lady. The picture opens at the local theatre on Friday.
