CONCERT AT MANGAHAO.

SPLENDID PROGAMME. The Shannon Choral Society gave a grand concert at Mangahao on Wednesday night to a crowded house. The choir made the journey to the top dam in the afternoon and were the guests of the residents who showed them around the works. Those of the, party who had- not seen these before were much impressed. 1 * The concert started well on time and went with a swing from beginning to end. The Choral Society which numbered about 45 persons, was never heard to better advantage and the items were much appreciated by the large audience. They rendered the following items: “Watchman, what of the Night,” “Drink to me only with thine eyes, ” “The Lost Chord,” “Annie Laurie,” “Good Night, Beloved,” “Hallelujah Chorus.” The choir was very well balanced, their work reflecting great credit, both on themselves and their conductor, Mr. Howard Andrew, who had them well under control. The audience appreciated all the items and a portion of the “Hallelujah” had to be repeated. It was certainly a novelty to hear such a classical item in a camp situated so far back among the hills. . The other items of the programme were given by members of, the Society, assisted by others, Mrs Cronquest rendered songs and an elocutionary item; 'Mrs Bell, song and recitation; Mrs Morgan, song “Fiddle and I,” with fiddle accompaniment by Miss E. Quarrie; Mr. Lister, song, “The Landlord's Daughter”; Mr Mr. Lamison, song, “Quaint Old Fassioned'Town”; Mrs Gregory, song, “A Farewell”; Mesdames Bell and Cronquest, duets; Mr Howard Andrew, who is well known in Mangahao, song,“The Bosun’s Story.” All these performers received encores. One of the outstanding performers was Miss Ivy Middlemiss in her clever elocutionary items. -The audience was kept in roars of laughter, whilst her item “Dollars and. Dimes” fairly brought the house down. Mrs Clifford Jones, the official accompanist of the Society, “was kept at work' having to play for so many items, but Mrs Jones has abundance of energy and the Society is fortunate in having such an able accompanist. At the conclusion of the concert Mr. Massey Sanson, secretary of the Y.M. C.A., expressed the gratitude of all present and that of the residents of Mangahao for the very excellent programme, rendered, which the audience had so much enjoyed. . This was .carried by acclamation. The conductor, Mr. Howard Andrew, suitably replied, stating that it was a pleasure to visit Mangahao and sing to such to an appreciative audience. He then called for cheers for the hospitality and ‘kindness shown by the residents. *

The floor was then cleared for dancing, Mr. R. White being M.C., while the music was supplied by residents and visitors. ‘

This is the second time the |3ociety have visited Mangahao and prior to their return home Mr.'Sanson extended a hearty invitation to them to visit Mangahao again.
