MAKERUA DRAINAGE

, MONTHLY MEETING OP BOARD,

The monthly meeting of the Ma kerua Drainage Board was held on Thursday, when Mr 11. Akers occupied the chair. Other members present were Messrs. J. H. P. Liggins, R. Ij. Tipper, N. B. Gibbons, and H. G. T. Hume. Overseer’s Report. The overseer, Mr. W. H. Miles, reported that since the last meeting the praising of the bank at Craw’s had been completed, and .willow’s had been planted round the bottom. Twelve chains were levelled, but required sowing in grass seed. The new drain in Craw’s had now two crossing and would require additional pipes. The flood-gate at Campbell’s Drain had been repaired. During the recent flood in the Tokomaru two erosions had , taken place, one of .which was within five feet of the bank. This had been repaired and a channel of two chains had been cut through a point to allow the river to go along a straight course. The protection bank at Whitanui was cutting in pretty badly below where j the willows were planted. All the drain-cleaning would be completed next week.—Adopted. General.

The engineer was instructed Jo prepare an estimate of the cost of draining the central part of the district, the report to be submitted at the next meeting of he Board. It was further decided that the engineer supply to the next meeting the post of the work carried out to date, more particularly to the cost of the main drain tMpough Craw’s, cost of right and left bank of Tokomaru, cost of bank on Manawatu, and banks above and below the Tolcomaru River, and also the cost of the intersecting channel and the drains.
