FOR NEEDLEWOMEN

WORDS TO THE WISE. Always use. as fine a thread and needle as lhe garment will allow. Always use double thread for gathering. When threading your needle, make the knot dn the end broken from the reel, In facing a slcevcr, turn; it, and place the facing inside the sleeve before sewing it on. Gathers should always bo set on the right side, but never' with a needle; use a lai-ge pin. When sewing on a button, place the knot on the right side of the cloth directly under the button. In sewing a seam put th e stitches closely _ togcthei’, but lightly into the cloth, being careful not to pull the thread tight, as this causes th e scam to draw. ~ When making seams or joining any materials, instead of tacking them together, as is usual, clip them together at. intei'vals with wire paper-clips. This saves much time and tacking cotton. When sewing snap-fasteners on a garment always sew the ball-snap on th e upper piece, as the back of this is flat and will leave no mark on the outside of the cloth. Hewing on dark material should not be done at night. .
