MAORILAND THEATRE
“THE MAN UPSTAIRS.” The Maoriland Theatre will feature “The Man Upstairs,” a Warner Bros. Classic of the Screen, released by Master Pictuxes, on Wednesday Monte Blue, popular film star, plays Geoffrey West, alone in London and in search of romance. Dorothy Devors plays Marian Larnard, in search of ad venture. Through the medium of the “agony” or “personal” column of the dailv newspaper, the two young people become acquainted. To gratify her love of excitement, West sends her a series of letters describing a mysterious murder which is purely imaginary. She decides to turn the joke on him and gives his letters to the police, and he is sent to prison for a murder which, took place only in his imagination. When Marian decides that he has had enough thrills out of prison, she reveals the plot and he is freed to begin his remanee with her. OORINNE GRIFFITH AND PRANK MAYO IN “SIX DAYS.” An original motion picture story by the English novelist, Elinor Glyn, famous for her novel, “Three Weeks,” is coming to the local theatre’on Friday. It is called “Six Days,” and has been picturised by Goldwyn under the direction of Charles Brabin, who made “Driven” one of last season’s successes . “Six Days” tells the story of Lalino Kingston, whose mother, left penniless by the business failure and suicide of her husband, schemes to marry La line to Sir Charles Chetwyn, of an old and wealthy English family. While in Paris, Laiine meets and falls in love with Dion Leslie, son of a famous actress. Dion is in reality Sir Charles’ son, his mother having left Sir Charles after the boy’s birth. After visiting the grave of her brother on one of the battlefields of France, Laline and Dion, accompanied by" a priest as a guide, are trapped in one of the old German dugouts. Unable to make their escape and facing death through the exhaustion of air in six days, Laline and Dion are married by the priest just before his death. In a last frantic effort to escape, Dion and Laline fall into a chalk mine underneath the dugout and become separated, each being finally rescued. Laline’s mother takes her back to England, and, by threatening to kill herself unless Laline consents to marry Sir Charles forces her into a second marriage, Laline, of course, believing Dion had been killed in the dugout. Later, Dion, recovered in body and mind, goes to claim Laline.
The splendid cast includes Corinne Griffith, Frank Mayo, Claude King, Myrtle Stedman, Maude George, Spottiswocde Aitken and many others. The picture is brimful of action and drama and has a, number of spectacular scenes. It will be released by First National,
