FOXTON ROAD FLOODED.
SERVICE MAINTAINED BY AID OF BOAT. The heavy rain during the week-end has made the road betwe’en the WiroVino Bridge and Foxton impassable, as it is flooded for a length of about a mile. The mail service consequently had to be diverted to a roundabout route this morning and instead of starting out from Foxton at 7 a.m., fhe contractor (Mr Rout) found it necessary to leave at a quarter to four and travel up to Palmerston and then down by the main road to Levin —a distance of near ly 60 miles as against 14 miles by the direct route.
At the Foxton end a service is now being maintained between the township and the river, so that the mails and passengers may be taken across by boat, Mr Rout, picking them up on this side by ear running from Levin to Wirokino. . , , . , On Saturday the two regular trips by the ordinary route were made, the road not being badly affected by water, though there were wash-outs in one or two places.
