RECEIVER DE LUXE

THE COTJNTERPHASE EIGHT SENSITIVITY AND THE EASE OF CONTROL. This machine comprises three stages of radio- frequency amplification, a detector and three stages of audio-frequency amplifier, including one power stage. There is also a filter stage between the aerial and first R.F. tube for the elimination of interference, which can be cut out of circuit when desired. Tuning is by one knob operating a drum indicator accurately calibrated in wavelengths. While Christchurch was in operation, 2GB, 2BL, 3LO, SCL, IYA..2FG. were all tuned in without trouble from interference; in the case of SCL, however, it was necessary to cut in the filter circuit. 4QG’s wave was interfering with that of 3YA, and the former could not be ' tuned in with any machine. The chief featurosof the Counterphase 8 are undoubtedly the selec- ; J tivity of the machine, coupled with • one-dial control which a child could ' operate, and a correctly-calibrated i ; .r dial. The wave-lengths of the varr * ious stations were taken from. the f r gun, the dial set to them, and in

came the station. The tone of the machine was excellent, and so was its sensitivity; even in receiving American stations only six valves being used. To the owner of such a machine every night can be silent night for the local station. The thank 3 of the writer are due to the agents for the loan of the receiver.

Now is the time to overhaul the aerial, before the winter sets in. Remove all spider webs from insulators, and eject the owners who live in the eyelets. Spider webs when wet ruin the insulation.
