LOCAL STOCK FIRM CHANGES
MR F. A. NICHOLSON RETIRING.
Mr F. A. Nicholson, who has been in charge of the Levin branch of Messrs Abraham and Williams, Ltd., since 1912, will retire from the service of the firm to-morrow, and it is his intention to take up farming pursuits in this district. In October last, up till which time Mr Nicholson held the position of manager at Levin, the status of the local office was altered to that of an egency, owing to the changing conditions of pastoral life, which have affected the business of stock firms in many parts of the North Island. With the growth of closer settlement and the turning-over of .former sheep country to dairying, stock sales have not the same significance as :'n the days when one town served as the place of exchange for an extensive pastoral district. ■ ' „
Mr Nicholson has had nearly 20 years' service with Messrs Abraham and Williams, having joined the stall in Palmerston in 1908 as a sale clerk. During his 15 years' residence in Levin he has been deservedly popular with the farming community, no less than with the many townspeople with whom he has come in contact, either in the way of business or socially, and all will wish him prosperity in his new sphere of activity. A readjustment in the staff has been necessary', consequent on Mr Nicholson's retirement, and Mr S. Sievers, who has been in charge at Otaki, will take up his residence in Levin, and will control the loeal business and that of Otaki and Waikanae. Mr G. Evans, of the local staff, will attend to Foxton and Shannon.
