THIRD GRADE.
WANDERERS 20 v. SHANNON 12. This match was played on the Mira nui ground and was very evenly contested, the final result being, in doubt right up to.thj; call of time. The game had not been long in progress before Jones scored for Wanderers, and shortly after Bond placed a second try to their credit. Taylor had the .kiek .at goal i.-n eaeh occasion, but failed to add the extra points. Wanderers continued to keep up the attacks, finally Jones snapping rip the ball drop-kicked a nice goal. This substantial lead evidently put the Shannon team on their mettle, with the result that they took a turn at attack, which ended in Wilson scoring a nice try from a forward rush'. Wannan failed with the kick at goal. The opening of the second sped saw Shannon again attack, the outcome of which Ngatama scored. Mason missed the kick. Keeping up the attack Lee scored Shannon’s third try: Satherley took the kick at goal, but > missed. These reverses evidently set the Wanderers going again, who by a strong forward rush, enabled Bond to score, Taylor converting. Not to be denied Shannon came again and Warman, who was playing a sound forward game, scored. Mason did not add the major points. The game now became very fast and after several exchanges Mason got the ball right on his own line and instead of kicking, tried to push his way through. He was beaten for the ball by Taylor, who scored right on the call of time. He converted his own try. The game thus ended—-Wan-derers 20, Shannon 12. Mr C. Coyl.' efficiently eontioiled the game.
