BE YOUR NATURAL SELF

Now and again queries come before us, from girls who are distressed about tlie, mselves; they ask, ''Should they do this or that because other girls do it,” and they are afraid of being considered old fashioned, or not quite correct in their way of doing things, and they are afraid of being set aside.

There is the girl who doesn’t seem modern—she doesn’t smoke, drinks nothing slronger than tea, coffee or lemonade, and wears her hair long. She admires her up-to-date sisters* and appreciates all their modern ways; would like to be like them herself. . . Only they are inclined to look back upon her with, pitying scorn; and she herself feels that she must go through life perpetually apologising for her silliness. That is where she is mistaken. Because she is a type, just as the other girls are a type; and atlhough' her type is in the minority, there is-, no reason at all why she should consider herself old-fashioned.

It is quite posi^bl e in these daysfor a girl to be as modern in her outlook on life, and her actions and appearance, as any girl has ever been—— and yet wear her hair long, avoid cigarettes and abstain from cocktails.
