THE MAIN HIGHWAYS.
OPERATIONS IN APRIL. The County Engineer (Air. W. N. Anderson) reported as follows to the Horowhenua County Council on Saturday in regard to main highways work in the County:— ' - No. 1 Highway: Waikanae-Otaki Section Steady progress is still being made with work on this section. Widening of the road is. completed, and crushed and pit metal is now being carted for foundation w.ork.. Owing to the unfavourable nature of the weather, the bitumen work has been considerably delayed, but has now been completed to the Otaki bridge. This makes four and ahalf of completed road in this section.' Otaki-Manakau Section. The read deviation work at the concrete overhead bridge was finished during the period, and a start made with the deviation through Air. D'Ath's property; good progress is being made with this work. Foundation strengthening work is being carried out, and if the weather remains fine, a start will be made with the penetration work. No. 60 Highway: North Boundary, Wirokino RidingShannon Section. Survey w.ork has been completed, and plans, etc., are well in hand. Shannon-Makerua Section. Widening and shoulder work has been completed, and a quantity of foundation metal has been put out from Shannon boundary to the Aliranui mill. A start has been made with the Avidening south of the Alakcrua station. Makenia Station to Tokomaru Bridge. The smwey \vork is well in hand Tokomaru Bridge to North Boundary of County. A .start has been made with formation. Avork on -this section. The report Avas adopted.
