HOROWHENUA POWER BOARD.

FIRST MEETING OF YEAR. The May meeting of the Horowhenua Power Board was held' in Levin on Tuesday when there were 1 present: The chairman (Mr G. A. Monk), and Messrs W. E. Barber, W. H Gunning, A. Seifert, T. G. Vincent, A. J. Pethericl:, C. Blenkhorn, R. Bryant, and E. Morse. NEW MEMBERS WELCOMED. Ihe Secretary (Mr Goldsmith) reported the election of Messrs Blenkhorn, Morse and Bryant to represent the Levin, Otaki and Foxton Boroughs The chairman extended a very hearty welcome to the Board table to the new members. They were all well and favourably known in the districts from which they ;ame. They would find the work very interesting and that it afforded scope for all the attention they were prepared to give it.Mr Blenkhorn, in thanking the chairman for his remarks, said he recognised the Board as a highly efficient business institution and he hoped to be able to justify his election to it.

Mr Morse also thanked the chairman for his kindly welcome and said he hoped under his guidance and with his associates on the Board to assist in its work. "

Mr Bryant also thanked the chair man.

TREASURER’S REPORT.

The Treasurer reported that the accounts for payment and confirmation totalled £2625. The chief item was £1356, repayment of a debenture of tlie second £40,000 loan. Receipts for April.

The receipts for April were as follow, the electricity item including the quarterly accounts which came in very acceptably because of the large quarterly account due to the Department by the Board for current: —

The _accoftuits were passed for payment. ENGINEER’S REPORT. The Engineer reported for the month: 5 No. 1 Gang have completed Mata: Road Circuit, and are now on Soldiers’ Road, Paraparaumu. They have fitted and erected 48 poles Tney have c.v tended and run extra phases at the Soldieis’ Settlement Road, Wirokino, ani made alterations at the Boys’ Training Farm.

No. 2 Gang have been engaged on general overhaul of lines at Para para.imiu Beafh and made alteration at railway crossing Paraparaumu. No. 3 Gang have run 6 services, erected 6 poles, and run 38 chairfs ol‘ wire. Patrolled Toltomaiu Circuit. Overhauled a number of poles, ShannonLevin Circuit, and straightened up some poles on Marincto L.T. line Electrical fitters have run 12 services, erected 4 polos, run 80 chains of wire; made alterations on Levin-Fox. ton road to clear telegraph wires. Cut in E.H.T. Matai Road, and 3 laihvay cottages, Paekakariki, and general maintenance. General. —The Matai Road Extension has been liveiud tyi and all consumers on that circuit are connected.

Details were also given of the workshops and grrage work. The Engineer’s report was adopted on the chairman’s motion, and Mr Smith was granted leave of absence to attend the Engineers’ Conference to be held in Wellington on May 24th. FINANCE COMMITTEE. On the chairman’s motion, seconded by Mr Vincent, Messrs Seifert, Gunning and the mover, were appointed a Finance Committee.
