This match was played on the Foxton racecourse on Saturday, and drew a good gate despite the drizzle which fell just before, the game. : Front- the kick-off,- Awahou (mb) attacked Hakaraia setting the backs into .notion, passing to Moses, Hindii, Wesrvard, 'Fuller. Fuller’s return ■ -pass to Westward was too, high, falling into touch. From a. line-out, Jacob (Wanderers) broke away with the ball at his feet, but Westward managed to Tick into touch. Moses kicked well it)field and Taylor following fast beat Ryder for the ball to score under the' posts. Moses converted. —Awahou, 5, Wanderers, 0. _ Wanderers worked upfield. Jacob missing a penalty goal from the twenty five. Tohu was then prominent, getting over in a good position. Jacob conveiled: —5 all. Westward saved again by tackling Jacob who had successfully dummied several reds. Almost immediately Ja cob had his forwards back, missing r. sure try-by knocking on near the posts. Jacob had another attempt to goal the greasy ball from a penalty in a good position, the reds accepting a force. SHANNON AND HUI MAI DRAW

This game was played on the Domain at Shannon on Saturday, and although it was a, poor exhibition of Rugby, the issue was in doubt till the last. The result .was a-draw, the score' being eleven all. Hui Mai kicked off and following up had Shannon defending their line. From fi scramble W. Gordon got possession and finding Shannon out of position, sent a long jrass to the centre three quarter, who in turn quickly transfer - ied to Ahern, who, beating his opponent, scored for Hui Mai within two minutes of the commencement of play. Eagle failed to add the extra points. For the next ten minutes Hui Alai had Shannon on the defensive. Then Shannon reversed the order of play and worked the ball inside Hui Mai’s 25,

whore Hibdßl got possession, but a chance, to seore was missed, owing to his. failing, to. send it on to Williams, who had a clear run'in. Shortly- after from a Scrum, Whyte got over the line in front of the posts. On resuming, Hui Mai set out to square matters and a kick across, the field, followed by fast following up by Hui Alai, saw McLeavey fall on tnc ball by'the post. On the hall going'into play Hui Mai dribbled down the field, the outcome of Avhicli was that Webby scored. Eagle’s kick at goal failed to place them in the lead. With the scores level once more both teams sti'ove to gez victory and just on the call of time Hannan spoilt Shan non’s chance by hanging oil to the ball too long. The most noticeable among the Shannon backs was Williams, who got the bulk of the work, acquitting himself well, being both sound in defence and attack. Saxby aiid Thompson also played well. The.for wards as a whole worked hard, Robinson being the outstanding player and with Bowler and Hibbell, the trio were a source of anxiety to the opponents in the loose rushes. Mr RSands controlled the game.

THIRD GRADE.

SHANNON 12 v. WERAROA 6. The above teams met on the Miranui ground on Saturday and after a keenly contested game the local boys came out oil top.
