Questions were asked at the Horowhenua County Council meeting on Saturday by Cr Catley as to what certain men on road work were doing with their i coats on, or leaning on their shovels. [ The explanation given by the Chairman (Cr. Monk) and the Engineer (Mr Anderson) in regard to one case, in which Cr Catley passed the men on the north side of Shannon on May 12th at 9.40 a.m., was that they were having their half-past nine smoke-oh. The Engineer remarked that the gang had done very good work and very cheap work. There is a saying, “If at first you don’t succeed, try, try, try again.” A Blenheim local body candidate is described as an unconquerable soul, with head battered but unbowed, the holder of the world’s record for defeats at local body elections. He has been unsuccessful on 26 different occasions. He once obtained a seat on the Blenheim Borough Council at a by- election, there being ino other candidate, but whoa the municipal elections came along few months later the ratepayers 7rejected him* . .... :
