HOUSEHOLD ECONOMIES
Old huckaback towels which are no longer fit for bedroom use can bo converted into roller towels. Two should be joined together to make them the required length. Old tablecloths should have the most worn parts removed and be cut to a smaller size, neatly hemmed and utilised as kitchen tablecloths. When they are made of fine damask they may be cut into slips, edged with a torchon lace or crochet, and converted into afternoon teacloths or traycloths. Another use for old tablecloths is the making of table napkins, which are always needed in the linen cupboards as they are given hard wear as a rule. Largo sheets worn in the middle can be cut, the good pieces joined together and made into sheets, for single beds. Sheets which have worn thin all over should be kept for summer use; and patched and mended sheets are useful in times of illness. Pillow and bolster slips and undcrcovors can be made from old sheets. Blankets which have become thin can be joined together and, if liked, given a pretty cover and used as an extra covering for a cSt or small bed. Always keep a good stock of old linen in case handajres should be required at any time.
