At the meeting of the Power Board Tuesday, Mr-T. G. Vincent asked if the engineer could give members any idea how the new arrangement at Paraparaumu was working, under which a fee of 2/6 was charged for attending to minor faults; it seemed to him that the cost at Paraparaumu was out of proportion to that at other places. The chairman (Mr Monk) stated that the Board's egent there reported that the system was working very satisfactorily. The-chairman thought it was cheaper to do the work from Paraparaumu than from Otaki for a genuine complaint.: that was the idea when the new system was established. Mr Seifert pointed out that if the man was being called out to attend to trifling things, the Board could have a check by getting a return showing the nature of the trouble. He remarked that the only tinre hjis firm (the flfaxdressing. company) called on the Board's staff was wher there was something, 'wrong, with • the transformers; otherwise'they: dealt with faults by using the services of ■ their own experts. The Board's : engineer (Mr J. A. Smith) explained that it was a great convenience to have a man stationed at Paraparaumu to■"; attend to complaints from a scattered district, and the Board was paving, money by have him there. ,*,.

: Attention was called by -"Mt. T... G. Vincent, at" the meeting of the Power Board Tuesday, to breakdowns which happen about 7 a.m., causing inconvenience to those who are running milking and separating plants. With one of these sudden stoppages of pewter, he said, it was quite an easy matter for the separator bowl to be hurled through the roof of s a shed. The chairman (Mr Monk): "I would not call it easy." Mr Vincent: "It is, Mr Chairman. I know of one instance where the separator went through the roof and gave the man a very .nasty crack. Ke did.not have electric pow er, though. ". The Chairman said that in his experience, if the belt did not come off," the spring in the clutch broke. "The firm was charging 9s each for the "springs," he. added, "but we overcame that by manufacturing our own." The engineer (Mr J. A. Smith) stated that the stoppages, weie due to the power being "kicked off;'' either at Shannon or Mangahao and the Board could hot prevent this. ;Mr Vincent added that certain separators, a few y ears ago, often '' went "through the iobf;" The chairman said he wouid suggest that Mr Smith try to have the matter discussed; it might apply to other forms of machinery as well. Mr Seifert said the Thames Powjr Board might be written to, as it had a considerable number of dairies in its area, and had probably found a remedy for the trouble. The engineer was directed to make suitable inquiries.
