The monthly meeting _of the Makerua -toi-ftVnWe'Board' was held yesterday when Mr J. Liggins occupied •the chair Other members present hvere Messrs H.-Akers, R. L. Tippler, 'H.\J. T.'Hume, J. H. P. Liggins, W. B. Gibbons and A. Seifert .
' 'Engineers' Report. The engineers reported as follows on the various works: — Contractor Day has satisfactorily finished the raising of the Kara stopbanksj tForeman' Madden has completed the bridge over Kara stream (west, of railway), and ramps and the HorowtieriUa County engineer has been asked ; to inspect the work'done. fro. 1 Dredge, which has been purchased by the lands drainage branch 6f the Lands and Survey Department, Auckland was taken from its position near Kingston road" to Shannon Railway 'station, a distance of about 13-8' miles. The main road bridge over"'the Kara stream had to be considerably strengthened and stiffened, the work done enabled the marihine (which weighs 50 tons) to dross without mishap. .Seifert's Stock Bridge over the Maurigapukatea creek to whicti'the Board contributed thS timbef has been contributed. The 1 pumping plant at south of Loughnan and Dalzell's main drain has been completed, I 'but a try-out of the pump is required before it can be passed. This we have arranged for at the first opportunity. ,Vi Foreman's Report.
The foreman (Mr W. H. Miles) repbrted having completed 15 chains of protection'work. " The intersecting ing channel from the main drain to Seifert's * tram bridge has b3<;n 'cleaned out and from Seifert's tram bridge'to''Seifert's' boundary drain had been deepened about 18 inches, which nieant the lowering of, the water. The balance, of th e drain required cleaning.; ' Th e posts for Walls' stock yard will come from Mangahao, half of : the posts having arrived. There were three sl>ps on the left bank of the Tokomacu ' river just below Liggins* and Loughnan's boun-. There were also three chains at? the end' of the' '.'old main drain at the Linton'" railway ' which were washed away. These places would require filling in as soon as possible.
