unveiling of memorial TO MRS LAURVIG. i At the Shannon Club ’s_ pavilion oil Saturday afternoon, in the presence Of members of the Club and their friepds, His Worship the. Mayor (Mr. E. Butt) performed the ceremony pf unveiling the tablet erected by the Club to the memory of the late Mrs Laurvig, a very . , old member and supporter of the game. ' The Mayor stated that he had been entrusted with the duty of unveiling the memorial to the late Mrs Laurvig, * which he said had been erected to remind them and future generations of one who had the welfare of the Tennis Club at heart. The late Mrs Laurvig ■ was a member of the Club for 18 years, joining when the Club was in its in- , * fancy. She was always one of the . leading players, and right up to the ', time of her death; although advancpl in veai-s, she had maintained that position. She took a keen interest in ..the younger players and was always ready with a word of advice and encouragement. As regards the building up of the Club, Mrs Laurvig was always amongst the foremost in rendering aid and arranging and assisting in carrying out any function which would assist the finance of the Club, and in no small part was the present financial position of the Club due to her efforts. Her time and invaluable advice was always at their disposal and her bright and cheerful presence on the courts would be missed with great regret by her fellow members. In her public ' life she was always to the fore with assistance in any movement for the welfare of the town and district. He then, proceeded to u a veil the memorial, which he said, would stand to remind them of the benevolence of her character and of all the virtues for whieh she was distinguished. • . Those present rose to their feet in silence aq the Mayor unveiled the tablet. '“ . . '. The president, Mr E. T. Moody, in paying a tribute to her memory, said the present courts were largely due to her efforts. She would be greatly missed, but this tablet would bo seen by " present and future members' and wou.d - yprve to remind them of one who h&u , rendered her fallow members such valuable service. . . . : The tablet bears the following uv fcription: "This tablet is erected in memory of Mrs Wilhelminna Laurvig, who died on the 26th December, 1926, and to express the appreciation -of the • Club *for her invaluable services wren- ; i dered during 18 years of membership and as a token of the respect and esteem in whieh she was held by the fellow members. ”
