A NEW WOOL PACK
> According to a Bradford correspondent, attention has again -been di .' ' rected to the question of the elimiua■x tion of jute fibres from wool by the i arrival of two specially treated bales *' at the Bradford office of Laycock, Son and Co., Ltd., ' The method of ■ treatment, which was carried out in Australia ,was to apply a chemical ! - solution to the surface of the bales, f and then to pass them through heavy } rollers. In that way the solution ; was squeezed into the texture,, one! • every loose fibre became so fixed that even when it wa s cut there were no jagged edges or fibre to find their ;- way.into the wool. One bale contained greasy cross-bred, and the other scoured merino, and it is un- . - detstood that they have created a very favourable impression among Bradford importers and the trade generally. Both are stated to have ' coma through the transit and. hand- , ling very creditably, though the bales containing the greasy wool was on the thin side. It will weigh no more than 6 to 7 lb .and has been split by the crane hooks rather mure than usual. The one containing the scoured wool is the usual 121 b. tare, and this - had carried perfectly. The general adoption of this kind of bale may be expected to help very considerably - in', preventing objectionable fibres finding their way into wool, and ulti- ' mately into partly and fully ' mami-j , faciured goods.
