MODES FOR WOMEN
A ROUJND Otf Till: SHOPS. ™"
Easter is the j'ast holiday before the winter sets in and Milady insists on being properly equipped for the chilly months. In hats, the styles have gone to the high crown and vagabond type. Flocking styles are gradually becoming nioro severe and Easter shoppers have evinced quite a strong desire for tailored suits in tweeds.
Judging by the demand during the past week, the woollen gaiter, known as the "Spatiee" is to become something more than a novelty. Apart from the fashionable aspect, the spattee is certainly a great saver of silk stockings on rainy days. "Flappers will find these a blessing when they are 'Charlestoning' along the street," commented one salas-woman to a Representative of tho 'Times.' An innovation that should appeal to the Scots is the Highland spatiee, which has a turned-down top similar to a man's golf hose. Mention was made that suits were to be the order' of tho day and the very latest was on view in Palmerston "North during the week. —The model was dressed in a short coat, similar to a man's dinner jacket, complete with a waistcoat, highnecked blouse featuring a large wide-end gaily coloured tie. New barrel-stripe jumper suits are the latest in smart colourings. Contrasting stripes in 'hoop' fashion will oc something altogether quite fresh to the eye. Fortunately the bright colours are matched by plain skirts. "Wine" and its relations are the colours and all showrooms are a mass of these hues. My l/ndy's Hand-Bag. The "top-clasp'' bag in suede, soft leather and other attractive materials is with us. Fashion has decreed that the envelope bag and the style with a wide flap that fastens at the side shall be abandoned. Top-clasp bags are being worn in England today and their correct tone is proved by the fact that members of the Royal Party carried them during the recent tour.
