"NOT A SQUEAKER."
TROWERN REPLIES TO PURDY. Reg., Trowem writes to the Auckland Star:— ""Referring to your remarks' on Purely, I have to say I am sure Purely is not half as anxious to meet me as 1 am to meet him, after the beating I gave him in. Wanganui. It is a singu-lar-thing Purdy does not trouble about the money now, when I had to guarantee him £IOO win, lose or draw out of a purse of £l5O to meet him the first time. He also agreed to give me a return fight, which he later refused to do when Wellington offered to put on a fight. A few days ago .the N.B.A. offered me a fight with Purdy, purse £1;~0. . I refused because 1 have always been a good draw the four times I have fought here and considered I was worth a €2OO purse. The N.B.A. also offered me a fight with Purdy as champion fcr a purse of £2OO and as I considered he was.not entitled to one championship I refused for that reason, I hart beaten Purdy on the last three fights in Wellington, Invercargill and Wanganui. There were three different referees and the spectators endorsed the decision on each ccca.ion, there being not more than half a pound differonce in the weight in each fight. I wrote previous to the Palmerston North fight, to the New Zealand Boxing Council, stating; I could make 9st 91b and was prepared to fight for the title after that fight, Purely refusing to carry on with the fight.
"I am not a squeaker like some boxers, who complain through the papers every time they are beaten, but please note I had only seven days' notice in which to tiain down to 9st 121 b for the Grime fight; On the Friday prpvious to the fight, I dropped three and a half pounds in twenty-four hours as. a result of iufluenza and was advised to pull out, but refused."
