BUCKLEY DRAINAGE BOARD
"NOTHING FOR THE PRESS." (To the Editor.) "Sir,—Being keenly interested in local-' body affairs, I have wondered why you . have no report of the meetings of the Buckley Drainage Board in your'splendid little paper. The ratepayers are being asked in a day or two to elect members of the board, yet they as a whole are quite in the dark as to how the present members have acted or voted . Does the board object to a reporter being at the meting? or have you neglected to give your readers this item. —I am, etc., ; INTERESTED. [The '.vNews" is always willing to send a representative to any meeting ,:■ held in Shannon and is the only paper that gives local residents full reports of local affairs.! In regard to the meetings of the Buckley Drainage Board, however, these are held at irregular intervals. Our reporter attended on three or four different occasions when he heard" they were being held, and on each occasion he way told thai ■ there was nothing for the press. Recently, when repairs to the bank were being dealt with, he was infermed of a meeting and asked by a member to attend. He waited .about for' nearly an hour for the meeting to start and was then told by the Chairman there vv.ould be nothing for the press. Under these circumstances we feel that the •'' News'' cannot fairly be blamed for the absence of reports of the Buckley Drainage Board from its columns. -5 \ Ed. "News."]
