HOBSON SHIELD SPORTS.
CHAMPIONSHIP HONOURS DIVIDED LEVIN AND FOXTON TIE. What with the cold weather and the fact that several football matches and a-theatrical matinee were serving as counter-attractions, a large attendance could not have been looked for on the Levin Park Domain on Saturday afternoon, when the Hobson Shield Schools Championship Sports meeting was held. Still, when the sports were properly under way there was a crowd of spectators sufficient to fill the grandstand when a shower of rain and hail passed over the ground. The principal schools in the district sent their champions to compete, and two lorry-loads of children and adults came from Foxton. The competitive spirit was very keen, and some excellent finishes were witnessed. The running by two of the girls, Mabel Barron (Foxton) and Iris Milne (Tokomaru), was remarkably good, both girls showing great staying power and easily 'outdistancing their eomnetitors. The aggregate result of the sports was an unusual one, for Levin and Foxton tied for the Shield, each scoring 63| points Waikanae was runner-up with 38 points. . The Mayor (Mr T. Hobson) in presenting the trophy, congratulated tho two winning schools on their fine performances, and said that the .shield would be held for the first six months by Foxton and for tho remainder of the year by Levin, and at the end of that time it Avould be competed for again at Levin. ' , ".'.■/ . Mr B. J. Foss, headmaster at Levin, | and Mr Warwick, first assistant master at Foxton, responded on behalf of thek schools.
