PIGS FOR BACON

Pig buyers report that both bacon? ers and porkers are still coming forward in fairly large numbers, but a big proportion of them are not in the best condition, owing to their not being properly fed. In a good many cases farmers are forced to bring their pigs in a short notice, owing to their supplies of whey being much reduced or even stopped at the fectories.

The price offered for porkers and baconers at present is sd. and although farmers are dissatisfied with this price, it was stated that about a month ago, when the ruling price in Taranaki was 55d, the price realised in Queensland was only. 4d.. "There is very little demand for pigs between 1001 b and 1201 bin weight," said a Taranaki pig buyer the other day. He pointed out that, the most sought for animals were porkers under 901 b and baconers over 1201 b. Companies were not overanxious to take any but the best animals.
