LIME AND MILK
Research work carried out at the Rowett Institute, Aberdeen, in America and at other centres indicates clearly that it is'advisable to supply all cows giving more than three gallons dally with some mineral supplement supplying phosphate of lime and common salt which latter substance is of particular importance in milk production. Other mineral ,elements of - importance in the construction Of blood and milk are iron, a consistent of blood protein, , and iodine. lodine is known to exert a beneficial influence on the -absorption of lime by the animal and is, for that reason.an important factor.ln feeding for growth.and for the production of milk. Either iron sulphate or iron oxide may be used as the source of iron in mineral mixtures, while • the iodiiie requirement is easily satisfied by the addition.to the mineral mixture of a trace of potassium iodide.
