SHANNON TENNIS CLUB.

l At a recent meeting of the Committee of the above club, many mattes of interest were dealt with. The sub-committee appointed to go into the matter advised tl.at a tablet in memory of the late Mrs Laurvig had been procured at a reasonable cost and after discussion it was decided that the tablet should be unveiled on Saturday, the 23rd inst., in order that the Easter holidays should not prevent any of the members from being present. The Mayor Mr E. Butt is to be requested to perform the unveiling ceremony. Thereafter, colour games would be the order of the day. The president reported that Mr H. Hock had donated two pins for competition among the junior members of the club. Owing to the season being so far advanced, it was decided to hold the competition over until next season. .'lt was decided that the trophy, a tennis racquet, donated by Mr. W. J. Murray, to the player showing most improvement in play during the season should be awarded to Master H. Pope, one of the youngest members of the Club. The secretary was instructed to write Mr Murray advising him and expressing to him the appreciation of the members for his generous donation. It was pointed out that during the '•ccent "£ales, the posts round the courts had suffered and would require renewing. It was decided to employ labour to do the necessary work. At the same time, the fence on the eastern side will be .shifted back two feet. This is a much needed improvement and will give more room for back play. The pavilion being in need of a coat of paint, it was decided that this would be done by the members. The Secretary reported that possibly the funds would require to be augmented. After discussion, it was de-' cided to call a meeting of all lady members to discuss the matter and make the necessary arrangement. . This was held in the Council Chambers on Monday last, there being a attendance of* ladies. Several"" apologies for ab-j senee were received together with pro- | mises of support in any function undertaken. It was decided that a,dance be held on Friday, the 29th inst., in the Druid's Hall and that lady members be requested to supply a basket :is usual. Tickets will be printed and it was decided to advertise the dance in Levin. A further meeting of all lady members will be held on Wednesday, the 20th inst., at 7.30 p,m., to make final preparations for the dance.
