HERD TESTING.

MEETING OP MANAWATU EXECUTIVE. At last meeting of the Executive of the Manawatu Herd Testing Association (Incorp.), There were present: Messrs W. H. Gimblett (in the chair), W. S. Fell, F. Farmer, W. C. Scott, F. J. Legg, F. Robin and J. Ferguson (secretary). The secretary reported that the final figures had come to hand and the position of the Association was very satis* factory. There were 8391 cows under test this year and reports from all parts of the district were very favourable . It was decided to hold a field day at Mr R. Evans' farm at Werarca on April 6th at 11 a.m., and to have Mr McCulloch of the Agricultural Department to address the farmers on the Uses of manures and the best grasses for butter-fat production, and to invite all interested dairy farmers whether members of the association or not. It was also decided to hold the next Executive meeting at Levin, so that members of that district may have an opportunity of meeting the executive. The secretary reported that the Awalniri Dairy Co. had volunteered a subsidy of Is per cow to its members who are testing their cows. The chairman remarked that -he was pleased to see at least the Directors of dairy companies were alive to the fact that herdtesting was essential to the dairying industry. ' '- : The organiser was instructed to. carry out a trial brand for branding cows under test and report at next meeting. Accounts totalling £ll2 I£>b Id were passed for payment. Mr McCulloch has consented to be present and give an address on "Manures and Grasses" at Mr Evans' farm, at Weraroa, on April 6th.
