BARBECUE IN SYDNEY

A feature of an historic paegeai representing every phase of Austrc lia's development, to be staged at th Sydney Showgrounds on April 1 and will be a barbecue—the roastiil of whole bullocks. It .is propose that the beasts be killed, , seasons and roasted in the ring. More.than half a century ago -barbecue was held in Hyde Park i the city, but it was more or less private affair. While the . bullocks are being roasted over the fire-trenches, whic the Royal Agricultural Society hi given permission to make a pageai will parade around the ring! At diffe: ent positions in the grounds will 1 enacted poignant phases of Australia history, including the landing of Ca] tain Cook—as explained in the fol lore of the aborigines. Descendants those aborigines who witnessed tl actual scene will stage the tableau. The hard life of first settlers will 1 shown, and the discovery of gold wi be illustrated by numerous mine: working on an alluvial field. This wi be followed by the development < Australian industries." Pastoral, agr cultural and manufacturing work wi be depicted and each night a grei display of fireworks will be given.
