«. ■ KHANDALLAH V. OTAKI Two rinks from the Khandallah Club visited Otaki on Wednesday, but light showers., interfered with the morning play. The afternoon, however, was fme, j and very enjoyable games resulted. During the day the visitors were entertained at lunch and afternoon tea. The President of the Khandallah Club, in reurning thanks for the hospitality ex:cndcd by the Otaki Club, spoke of the .unduess of the local club and stated chat games played had proved most enjoyable. Such games tended to good j fellowship, and was the means of bring- J v<r bowlers into closer touch with each j other. He hoped that Otaki Club would i ;end rinks to Khandallah, assuring them of a pleasant time should they do so. I (Cheers followed). Mr. Brandon, on behalf of the locaJ Jlub, thanked the visitors for their kind remarks, stated that he was pleased that all had enjoyed the outing, and stated that matches with outudc clubs did much good. Further cheers, followed by cheers for the ladies. McGill, Palmer, Brandon and Noble fs) met Living, Hare, Wright, and Nalder (s), when Otaki were defeated after an exciting finish, 21—20, The home team established a lead of 11-0, scoring on the first seven heads. On the 13th head Otaki still had a big lead—--11-7, then Khandallah scored ten on the following three heads, making the game 17-17 on the 16th head. The game on the 20th head was 20-20, but Khandallah lay one on the last head, 21-20, and won a well-deserved game. Baxter, Windley, O'Eourke, Olliver (s) played Bridges, "Bevan, King, and Burke (s) and won 18-16. Up to the 16th head Otaki had a good lead, 16-9, but on the 18th head Khandallah were only two behind, 16-14. The game was even for the remaining heads, Otaki securing only a slight advantage—two to the good. McGill, H. J. Palmer, Brandon, Smith (s) suffered badly at the hands of Bevan, Hare, Burke-, King (s), the latter winning 30-9. King's rink led 13-7 on the 9th head, 21-8 on the 13th, and then followed up by scoring nine on the last three heads. Baxter, Palmer, O'Eourke, Wilmot also had their colours lowered, being beaten 20-8. Otaki started very badly and were 14-3 on the twelfth head. The | handicap was never overtaken.
