ROAD MOTOR RACING.
FOOLISH PRACTICES. , It is gratifying to know that the Auckland . Automobile * Association .is strongly opposed- to the record-breaking motor trips that are being ;made from time 7 to : time,-and have gone so far as to protest to the Minister of Internal Affairs, and seek .his support in. putting a' stop to this highly dangerous and reprehensible practice. We * cannot see that any good object can be obtained •by madly careering through the country at a highly dangerous speed, simply to Advertise certain makes *o£ cars. It ..this kind of thing is to be tolerated, it means that others will follow suit, and the-practice will grow to such; an extent that-the ever-increasing number of accidents due to speeding; will mount even higher. Many of the roads on ’which .these- record-breaking “stunts/’ are made are narrow, sinuous and steep, and not only nre high rates of speed •dangerous ;for the? driver but for other reasonable and cautious people, who surely are entitled to protection in tbeir use of the roads. We have had far too much of this record-breaking cm the public roads, and ;it is to be hoped that the protest, of the- A.A.A. will have the desired effect of cheeking this evil practice. -
