HYDRO-ELECTRICITY.
HOROWHENUA POWER BOARD. MARCH MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Horowhenua Electric Power Board was held in the Municipal Chambers at Levin on Tuesday, there being present: Messrs G. A. Monk (chairman), C. Kilsby, W. E. Barber* A. J. Petherick, W. H. Gunning, P. W. Goldsmith (secretary) and J. A. Smith (engineer). Leave of absence was granted "To Messrs D. W. Matheson, A. Seifert, T. G. Vincent and A. Ross. ■ Treasurer’s Report. The Treasurer (Mr. Goldsmith) reported as follows: Since the Board last met payments have been made to the extept of £893 7s sd. The-principal items of expenditure were: Wages £426, salaries £250. railway freight” (chiefly poles) £l2B. Owing ,to the mishap to the s.s. Northumberland, a general average of 25 per cent, on the value of the cargo was declared and the Board had to advance the sum of £35 ss, being the allottee percentage on £141,. the value of the Board’s cargo on bo'ard. The bulk of this cargo come to hand, with little or no damage, the shipment being galvanised iron strip. The insurance will, however, make good any loss, whether little or much. - • ‘ The accounts, submitted for the day amounted to £1583 17s 6d. The two principal accounts were those of Messrs Riley and Co. for transformers, the amount being £538, and Messrs Richardson, McCabe and Co. for 294 poles, the amount being £445 9s 6d. Water-heat-ing elements, fuses, ranges, cable, meters, cross-arm timber, benzine and electrical installations accounted for the bulk of the balance.
Since the last meeting of the Board over £3OOO has been paid into the Bank. The following table was presented showing the classified receipts from the beginning of the financial year till the last meeting and for the past month: — . To last meeting. Since. £sd £ s d
Totals £42,292 0 1 £3038 7 11 The receipts for the period for elec- . tricity and meter Tents since last nieet ihg has been £2164 17s 6d, and the receipts from these sources for the corresponding period last year amounted to £1725 3s 4d. The receipts for the year to date for electricity and meter rents now total £32,220, as agains. £20,271. at. the March meeting last year. In both instances there is included an amount .from the preceding year, viz.: that outstanding ’on the 31st Match or the resppctiv f e-years, but collected afterwards. ■ ' The report was adopted. Engineer’s Report. The Engineer (Mr. J. A, Smith) reported as follows : Qn March Ist Mr. Petherick and I interviewed . the. residents of Otaihanga Road, Paraparaumu, regarding the pos-sible-demand for electricity. The estimated ( revenue based on their suggested installations, would be about £95 per year. The estimated cost of the construction of lines to serve these consumers is £SOO. Provided the residents sign up to ensure the above revenue, the construction could be gone on with-after the completion of the Muaupoko Road line, and I would ask authority to complete this work. Applications for power to the Blue stone Quarry Co. works and the Hutr County crusher at Paekakariki have been received, and I have made satisfactory arrangements with the Rail way Department to cross the railway yards to serve these two installations, which will be supplied from a trans former, alongside the present substation , The Rahui aud Ringavvhati Road line has been completed and was livened up on the 4th March, and all consumers on these lines are being supplied. The electrically driven pump installed by the Makerua Drainage Board is about ready, and will be put into service after the 31st of this month. Analysis of Connected Load. The following figures show the totals of connected load in the Board’s dis trict to March 9th: — k.w. Lighting No. Total h.p Industrial motors 194 231.' Milking motors 330 49. Consumers 3565 2602 Total connected k.w. .. 6279 The engineer’s report was adopted and he was given authority to construct a line at Otaihanga Road, provided that, the prospective consumers sign the necessary guarantee. The next meeting of the Board will, be held on Tuesday, April 26th.
