MOUNTED RIFLES CAMP.
INSTRUCTIONS TO TRAINEES. The annual camp of the 6th;. (Mannwatu) Mounted Rifles will be held on the Levin Racecourse from Tuesday, May 3rd, to Friday, May 33th, during which period trainees from the Wellington and Palmerston North drill centres will put in six days and those from the outer districts nine days. Pay of rank will be granted for six days only. No leave will be granted from this camp except in special cases, and then only on the production of a medical certificate as to tlnfitness or a certificate from a Magistrate. Absentees from annual camp training will be required to perform one more year for, every year that they fail to perform the necessary training, and in addition they are liable to prosecution fo.* failing" to render the personal service under the Defence Act. Civil . servants must bring a certificate that they are on leave without pay or on annual leave, or pay will be withheld. Reasonable out-of-pocket expenses incurred in proceeding to and from camp will be allowed. In this connexion it is notified that the maximum allowed for meals.is 2/6 at railway dining rooms and 1/6 at other places. Those living in out centres, without horses, will pay their own bus fares to the railway, and must produce a receipt for such claims. Taxi-cabs are not admissable. Trainees will travel to camp fully equippd with the kit on issue to them, and no suit-cases are to be taken. The kit-bag must be used for all personal kit. The following is a list of kit to be taken by each trainee:—Rifle and bayonet; bandolier; greatcoat; change of underclothing, sacks and boots; hair, tooth and boot brushes; boot and metal polish; lowel and soap; shaving gear; knife, fork and spoon; enamel plates and mug• optional football gear. Trainees bringing horses into camp will bring saddlery and line gear 1 . Cleaning gear will be issued iu camp. Horses should be freshly shod before coming to camp. Men bringing horses are required to inform the. Defence office as soon as possible, to enable train arrangements to be made..
