THE COMING SEASON. WANDERERS' CLUB. (From the Levin Chronicle). The annual meeting of the Wanderers' Football Club was held in Mr. W. Wilkinson's rooms on Tuesday evening, there being a large attendance. Mr H. J. Jones was in the chair during the absence of Mr L. McDonald. The annual report and balance sheet were adopted. The report stated that the season of 1926 was a most successful one. Three grades took ' part in the competitions, and the senior team Avon the championship and the Nasi Cup. With the championship the club won outright the Isherwood Shield. This the club presented to one of its loyal supporters, Mr. Lindsay McDonald. The committee recorded appreciation of the services of Mr,. R. Watt in organising and coaching the third-, grade team. It was a matter for congratulation that cue of their players, Mr. D. Tatana, was selected as one of the New Zealand Maori representatives to tour Great Britain and France. Mr. Tatana acquitted himself ably on the tour, and they were proud to have him again associated with the club. The committee thanked the large number of its supporters and looked forward to the coming season with confidence. The balance sheet showed that the year opened with a credit balance of £2B. 7s 2d. and closed with a credit balance of £l4 2s Id. Receipts were £2B 18s lOd, comprisiog subscriptions £ll ss, donations £l6 13s 10d, refund H.R.U. £l. The expenditure totalled £43 3s lid. The assets of the club stand at £36 2s id, and the liabilities [ are nil.. Officers for the ensuing year were elected as follows: Patron, Mr. Winiata Potaka; president, Mr. Lindsay McDonald; vice-presidents Messrs E. Caldow, S. Hall, J. Jamieson, J. Ryder, Rod. McDonald, W. Donnelly,) Fy Nicholson, G. Ramsbottom, L. Ingram, H. J, Jones, F. Best, H. H. Addington, S. Pou, W. Hannan, D. Tatana, H. Whitehouse, T. Hannan, H. Tatana, K Adams, S> Jackson, F. Newman, W. Hannan; coach, seniors, Mr. Jacobs; manager seniors, Mr L. Ingram; coachmanager juniors, Mr. T. Winiata; coaeh-manager thirds, Mr. D. Watt. The following new members were elected:— Mes&rs Thos. Spillane, Eric Vickers, Harry Walls, Nuthall, 11, and R. Cole, Dudley Brown, Niwa Wilson, G. Todd, McGregor, J. Corbie, and Bond.
Mr. Catey said it was. gratifying to know that somebody had come forward to take ?harge of the junior team, as there had been a difficulty in this respect in the past. The club appreciated Mr Winiata's offer very much and thanked him for the service which he would render. They were also fortunate in having Mr. Len Ingram to look after the senior team, and Mr. Watt to coach the third grade. The secretary reminded members that the annual meeting of the Honwhenua District Council would be held at Levin next
Tuesday evening. One of the matters to be discussed referred to the difficulty in the past in getting outside clubs to travel, these clubs being Paraparaumu, Otaki, Foxtcn and Shannon. A proposal would be put forward to subsidise these clubs, but there would be no subsidy for the teams in the centra of the district. It was desired to persuade the outside clubs to fulfil their engagements, not only for the good of football, but for the good of the purse of the - county. It was not proposed to give them the cost of travelling, but to subsidise them with sums ranging approximately from £5 to £lO. He would like the delegates to give this matter their consideration, with a view to putting it on trial this year. It looked as though Foxton would be rather woak this season. Awahou had stepped in and apparently secured most of their members, and probably Awahou would be a senior team. Another subject to be discussed would be the issue of uniform season tickets by the Manavvhenua Union. Last year both
Councils issued a season ticket, and also a pass, so there were at least four different kinds of pasjses in the Union. It was expected now to have only two passes right through the Union; also to reduce the number of free tickets. At a game at Palmerston last year, something like 100 free tickets went through the gates. The delegates might also consider the question of maintaining a stretcher for ambulance purposes on the principal grounds. The Club voted a bonus of £5 to Mr Casey for lm services as secretary during the past year. Mr Wilkinson' reported that Mr J. Rimmcr had kindly offered to provide honorary members' badges. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to Mr Riminer for his generous offer.
It was decided that the Club's delegates meet in Mr Wilkinson's rooms at 7.30 p.m. next Tuesday.
Mr W. Hannan stated that this would be his last year as delegate, and In; was not going on the management committee of the Unicn this year. Before resigning he would like to thank the members for the support they had given him during the past year. There had been two or three little arguments, but the players had backed him up to a man. He asked them now to support in the same way the man whom they would appoint in his place. If the players had any little differences they should meet together before the games and then the majority could decide the isue and prevent subsequent arguments.
Mr Hector McDonald said the members would be very sorry if Mr Hannan was going to retire from the management committee. If he should reconsider it, they would be very pleased to think that he was there, watching their interests. They had every confidence in him ,and his work on the Union could not be beaten. Theyi thanked
him for seeing the elub over very difficult times last year. Mr Todd endorsed Mr McDonald's remarks. Mr Casey said that one of Mr Hannan's latest works was to help the club to got the use of the Park Domain for the sum of £2O It was very pleasing to know that he and Mr O'Connor had been able to make this arrangement-, with the Borough Council Mr Hannan had been a first class committeeman, and it was to be hoped that he could be persuaded to serve again next year. Before the business concluded, the secretary pointed out to members thai; if a man played on the opening Saturday for a certain club he was regarded as a member of that club for the rest of the season. He might be transfer! ed before the first round was completed, but only by the permission oc the management committee. After the meeting a pleasant hour was spent in social converse. WERAROA CLUB. The annual general meeting of the Weraroa Football Club was held in Mr C. H. Bould's rooms on Monday evening, Mr J. J. O'Connor presided, and the attendance was good. In opening the meeting the president commented on the exceptionally good record put-up by the two teams taking part in last year's competition, and congratulated the players and coaches on their success. The juniors won the Cup, Banner and Canoe, these being the trophies for the competition; also the Otaki Licensed Victuallers' Cup for the knock'-out competition. The Third Grade team played a drawn game with Paraparaumu in the final, and as the season was so far advanced a deciding game was not played, the honours bein<; divided. The financial statement of the Club showed a credit balance of £ll Bs.9d. The election of officers resulted as follows: —Patron, Mr T. Hobson; president, Mr J. J. O'Connor; vice-presi-dents, Messrs H. McMillan, J. McFarlane, J. Bebbi-ngton, Noad, S. A. Broadbelt, E. Jones, Dr. Hunter, Dr. Thompson, C. H. Bould, S. Hooper. W. Peters, J. C. Connor, G.
