MOUNTED RIFLES CAMP.
TO BE HELD A LEVIN IN MAY. It is. expected that the 6th (Manawatu) Mounted Rifles will go into camp on the Levin racecourse early in May. Captain Gibbons, of the Defence office, Palmerston North, was in Levin yesterday, making preliminary arrangements in this connection. , The holding of the camp in Levin 'was facilitated by the willingness of the Levin Racing Club and A. and P. Association as represented by their joint, finance committee, to put the racecourse at the disposal of the military authorities without charge, and of the lessee, Mr. E. ,T. Yuile, in agreeing to the occupation of the grounds. Without such permission it would have been impossible for the camp to come to Levin and the action taken is concrete , evidence of the interest taken by those mentioned in the welfare of the town. Several hundred men will bo under canvas at different periods during the currency of the camp, and the effect of bringing so many people to the town cannot be without benefit from a'business point of view. I At this camp is given the anuual course of six days training for town members and nine days for country members of the regiment. It will be followed by a casual camp, and the racecourse will probably be occupied for the greater part of three weeks. The syllabus is not announced yet, but it is practically certain that the grounds will be used for drill, and that manoeuvres will be carried out on the sandhills in the direction of Hokio beach.
