SHANNON V. FOXTON A. The above teams met on the Shannon Domain on Saturday. The home team, who batted first, declared their innings closed with the loss of six wickets for a total of 150 runs. The visitors failed to make a stand against the local bowling, with the result that when their innings closed they had only registered 80 runs. The ex-High School boys, Roach and Picard, contributed largely to Shannon's score, the former, after having a life before opening his scoring account, notching 53 runs; while the latter knocked up 41 runs not out. The other double figure scorers were Cliff Hunt 13, Spring 12, and P. Morgan 10. Foxton opened weak, losing three wickets for 19 runs, Roach capturing the three wickets in one over. Taylor and Rankin 15 each and Howe 14 were the only batsmen to reach double figures. Following are the scores: — SHANNON—Ist INNINGS. OTAKI DEFEAT LEVIN. Otaki and Levin met on the latter's ground on Saturday, Otaki winning by 111 runs. Levin took first strike and were dismissed very cheaply, the innings only realising 55 runs, more than half of these coming from Bennett. Sievers, the Otaki skipper, was on the job with the ball, and trundled to good effect, Securing the excellent average of six wickets at a cost of 13 runs. Otaki set out to overtake their opponents' total in quick time, but could take no liberties with the bowling, and with six wickets down for 42 the southem men were not feeling exactly happy. However, a sterling innings by Pringle , enabled Levin's total to be passed, and with the match won, Johnson commenced to hit lustily, the hundred mark being well left behind before he was caught in the outfield by Hopa, who took a splendid running catch.
